A Little About Gerry

It was about 30 years ago that I had gone through my own personal transformation that led me to quit my job as an Executive Chef, return to school and change my career. Although I was happy as a chef, I felt an emptiness and a longing to work with people on a more personal level. I wanted to feed peoples' mind and spirit, rather than their stomachs.

As I began to walk on a new path in my life, I encountered many trials and obstacles, which left me feeling alone, doubting myself and doubting my choices. My struggles brought me to a place where I needed support, and so I found myself reaching out for help. I realized and accepted that I could not do it alone. Through my experience, I was able to heal, grow and develop as person. It was those experiences that formed the foundations of my philosophy of treatment - Support, Growth and Transformation. It is through connection and support that humans can find healing and growth. Transformation happens on the basis of that foundation of healing and growth. From there Transformative Counselling was born.

My own personal experience drives my professional role as a therapist. I have the advantage of knowing what it is like to be on the other side of the counsellor's chair - to be the one who is reaching out for help. Of course I do not only rely on my own personal experience, I have my academic training in counselling and therapy to instruct me so I can be able to better understand and support those whom I journey alongside.

After completing my studies and training at The University of Toronto I found myself confident and proud to be a therapist and counsellor. I find my work as a Psychotherapist very meaningful and valuable. I am grateful to journey and walk alongside those whom I have served. It is important to me that I offer the best therapy to all my clients and therefore I am continually studying and training to better myself. I seek to keep my skills and interventions updated so I can be the best support to my clients. And so my continuing education process has allowed my to study at University of Guelph, York University and Laurier University. Each university as offered me its own specialty of training. I look forward to meeting you and journeying alongside you as you also work through your own struggles of life.

About Our Practice

Transformative Counselling is that place, which recognizes that we are all humans on the journey of life and we all have the capacity to suffer and grow. The approach of Transformative Counselling is Humanistic, Holistic and Experiential. We believe that the therapeutic relationship is important and crucial to foster a human relationship that fosters healing and growth, by encountered the whole human person in each encounter. By that experience of encounter change happens, a person recognizes their true self and self worth. There is a simplicity and yet a complexity in that encounter that makes it happen.
